Lessons from spending 4 years in an Airstream

Tim and Amanda have spent the last four years traveling the United States in an Airstream. You can follow the whole adventure on their website. For the four year anniversary they wrote 40 lessons learned. Read the whole thing. Here are some of our favorite.

  • The best way to snag a first-come, first-serve site is by arriving on a Sunday, Monday or Tuesday.
  • Weather happens – be prepared. (In other words “following the weather” is not as easy as it sounds.)
  • Ditch the plastic bottles. Install an under sink water filter for drinking water.
  • If you like nature outside your window, stay mostly at public parks. If you like amenities and don’t mind driving to find nature, stay mostly at private parks.
  • Mold is gross. Sleeping on mold is even grosser. Make sure your RV mattress has airflow underneath. If it doesn’t, install a layer of Hypervent.
